Welcome to Thorns

Community Infant School

Welcome

Hello and welcome to the Park Hill Thorns Primary Federation. We are a federation of two schools who work as one for the benefit of our children and families. The federation consists of Thorns Community Infant school, which serves children from the start of their Reception year until the end of Year 2, and Park Hill Junior School, which has children from Year 3 until the end of Primary school in Year 6. Almost all children attend both settings which gives us the privilege of seeing their growth and progress over seven years as well as letting us get to know and work with families. I have had the fabulous job of being the head teacher of both schools since September 2025 but I have worked at the federation since 2012 and have loved being part of such a positive community of families and staff.

At the federation, we pride ourselves on the opportunities that we offer our children. Our curriculum guarantees, ensure a wide range of different options for all children including cultural enrichment, scientific experiences and learning about different cultures alongside understanding why Warwickshire is special. We run two different residential trips, multiple after school clubs and plan in lots of different visits and visitors. We are proud of our sports teams and the amazing opportunity for swimming in Thorns’ own pool. We have a strong place for celebrating music in our schools with lots of different lessons available at Park Hill and violin at Thorns alongside everyone learning to play an instrument in Year 3. We also have Christmas plays, end of year plays, a Spring concert that celebrates the joy of playing together; the Buckingham Cup music competition and our annual sing up day where we come together as a federation to sing to each other and enjoy the magic of primary school songs.  We have the most passionate art lead who ensures that children get lots of opportunities to be creative – whether through carefully planned projects or one-off celebratory days such as the Big Draw. Most importantly, we balance all of this with strong teaching and a focus on the key foundational knowledge that children need to gain early reading, writing and maths skills that will ensure their long-term success in education.

We know that our children are amazing and full of potential and we want to give them these chances to flourish whilst also providing the nurturing, safe environment that children need to grow. I am always incredibly proud of the team of dedicated teachers and staff who work so hard to build positive relationships with children and also deliver a strong education. I am also proud of the way we work with parents, especially when things are difficult or when children and parents need more support and we seek to have open and constructive relationships with all families.

If you are looking for a primary school place in Kenilworth, we would love to meet you and visits to both schools are welcome. Please contact either school office for more information.

Warm regards

Lizzy Biggs
